TICO Certification: What It Is and How to Get It

If you're becoming a travel agent in Ontario, TICO registration is mandatory. TICO — the Travel Industry Council of Ontario — regulates the province's travel industry and protects consumers.

What Is TICO?

TICO registers and regulates travel agencies and their employees in Ontario under the Ontario Travel Industry Act. All retail travel agents in Ontario must work under a TICO-registered agency.

The TICO Exam

To work as a travel agent in Ontario, you must pass the TICO exam — an online test covering Ontario's travel laws, consumer protection, and industry standards. Most candidates complete it with a few hours of study.
